People are moving faster, using faster technology, and getting more accomplished. There’s Wi-Fi on airplanes now. Literally, no one ever has to disconnect. Our progress has taken a sharp turn upward away from the tangible, and as we’re finding out, this is a good and bad thing.
But not everything in the world is prepped for an enormous boost in speed. No matter what industry you’re in, I’m sure you see the signs: equipment that can’t keep up with necessary deadlines, staff that can’t keep up with the latest trends.
If you’re in the metalworking industry, this move away from the tangible is a big concern. Finding qualified machinists is hard in today’s world. 20 years from now? Being proactive about training is the strongest defense. That, or start developing specialized robots. But seriously, what kind of company picnic would that be?
To help save you from robot employees and boring/scary future company picnics, Kennametal is introducing a series of educational Learning Labs this September at IMTS 2012: Hourly “InnovationExchange” presentations at the Kennametal booth. You can thank us later. Or just invite us to your next picnic.
