100% means 100%. Who knows this better than the 72 employees at the Kennametal plant in Whitehouse, Ohio. They recently celebrated six years without a manufacturing safety incident!
Safety is one of Kennametal’s top priorities, both on and off the jobsite. The Whitehouse location has internalized these goals down to the smallest detail. Their mantra? Never, ever become complacent. Complacency leads injuries.
So how do employees at the plant avoic complacency? They’re proactive with the “Find and Fix Program.” The program encourages employees who “find” a potential safety issue to either “fix” it themselves, or request assistance. In doing so, employees are awarded with Kenna Bucks that can be cashed in for Kennametal merchandise and products or converted to actual cash.
Recognize and reward is part of the safety strategy. The biggest challenge? Getting 100% awareness by 100% of employees; it’s creating a complete safety culture.
Whitehouse employees put in a lot of effort to maintain this record. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Kennametal sponsored a day at Cedar Point for all of the employees and their families. During the sponsored lunch, there were raffles and giveaways, including tickets to spend a weekend with the Ganassi Race team.
