Customer Service Week ’14 — “Saying YES to Excellence” for Loran is…

a creed I live by in both my professional and personal life.

Hi everyone! When the opportunity to write a blog post was offered to me I jumped at it due to the subject matter. 

Saying “yes” to excellence is about being the best I can possibly be in every aspect of my life. I am self-motivated to be the best at whatever I do.  Excellence means more than simply doing something; it means doing whatever I choose to do to the best of my ability. It’s something that has been instilled in me from a very young age in a healthy manner. I push myself to become better by preparation, practice, and continued learning.

Saying “yes” to excellence begins with the way I think. Having a positive mindset creates the platform I need to reach my daily goals as a Customer Service Representative at Kennametal. Positive self-talk and a general optimism about my career produce the support I need to win the customer. This is similar to how I handle my personal life. In my free time, I enjoy working out and bodybuilding. Before I go to the gym, I’ll focus on what I need to do to improve, and I’ll think about how I’m going to do so. I imagine lifting a heavy weight or completing a set. This anticipation helps me to achieve my goals with the thought of them actually happening.

Saying “yes” to excellence continues with preparation. This includes being educated in all aspects of my work. Knowing the functions of SAP allows me to “wow” our customers, breeding repeat business. I can honestly say that I learn something new here every day. This continued learning keeps me from complacency, and allows me to grow as a Kennametal employee. I want to be better than I was the day before. Consistently working toward excellence prepares me to be the best employee I can be.

Kennametal has helped to achieve my goals by pushing me to meet the needs of our customers, sales force, and shareholders, on a daily basis by Delivering the Promise. This healthy stress drives me to achieve excellence, by providing the best customer service possible. This includes entering customer orders and quotes on a timely basis and completing all reports. Ensuring customer satisfaction is key in my quest for excellence.

Through my thoughts, preparation, and drive, I am committed to saying yes to excellence for Kennametal!

    Saying yes to excellence is a great concept.
    But how about just saying YES.
    If you are asked to do something instead of saying “NO” you should think of how to say yes to the query.
    If I ask you if a product is available at your plant don’t just say NO. You could say YES it is available at plant xyz.
    Don’t tell me NO I cannot do something, instead tell me YES this is what I should do to proceed with my task.
