Greg Dewicki is Director -- Segment Marketing, Earthworks Portfolio at Kennametal, Inc. He's a kid at heart, with an Engineer Degree and P.E. License to practice. Greg began his career at Colorado School of Mines, Golden Colorado, with projects in Solar Energy, Chaos Theory of Mixing, and battery powered vehicles. Empowered with a degree to practice, Greg started with a metal plating and finishing company that serviced a wide range of industries and products, including; military & space specialty black boxes, construction tools, medical & dental tools, arms (gun barrels), and music & school supplies. Beyond learning the chemistry behind it, this also taught him what it means to stock up tolerances, test fit and function and provide a wear protection -- from the smallest of dental tools, to the largest of space craft components going into outer space. With the early 1990’s fiber optics network expansion in the USA, Greg got introduced to major construction projects and later into a career in the military industry, full of R&D and Engineering. He designed High Definition AC Plasma Display systems for various military applications, from navigation and targeting systems to display controls. Most of the projects involved challenges in heat management, wear protection, structural and mechanical fatigue life and chemistry.
At his next opportunity, Greg pursued Mining and Construction on a large scale, where the machines get bigger, the wear problems never go away, and the production rates kept increasing -- A recipe of success if you can help to solve some the problems!
Even after 25+ years living and working on three continents and visiting countless customer locations (Mines, Construction sites, Power plant, Ports, Mills, Foundries, Manufacturing and Fabrication facilities in all kinds of industries), Greg is still drawn to solutions. He says, "They keep surprising me and making me smile -- especially, when I see that there always will be a need for wear solutions as long as we mine, drill, grow crops, or process materials. If there is a change in the system/process, chances are there will be a need for a new wear solution!"
